– John Wileman/ 顧裕光, November, 2007
天地之間, 物各有主。
苟非吾之所有, 雖一毫而莫取。
惟江上之清風、與山間之明月,
耳得之而為聲, 目遇之而成色;
取之無禁, 用之不竭,
是造物者之無盡藏也。
蘇軾
天地 sky/heaven and earth 之間 in between
物 Things 各 each/individually 有主 have master/owner
苟 If 非 not 吾 I 之 of 所有 ownership
雖 Even though 一毫 one hair 而 but 莫取 not taking
惟 Only 江上 on/over the river 之 of 清風 clear wind/breeze
與 And 山間 between mountains 之 of 明月 bright moon
耳 Ears 得之 get it 而 and/but 為聲 become sound
目 Eyes 遇之 encounter it 而 and/but 成色 develop/establish color/image
取 Take 之 it 無禁 no prohibition
用 Use 之 it 不竭 no exhaustion
是 (It) is 造物者 the Person who creates things 之 of 無盡 no end/limit 藏 treasure 也 indeed
Heaven above. Earth below.
Between the two, each individual thing has its master.
What is not mine, though no bigger than a hair;
I do not take.
Across the river blows a clear breeze
And between the mountains shines the bright moon.
Ears receive it and bathe in sound.
To eyes that are open colors abound.
Take it without modesty.
Use it without ruin.
Thus, created without limit
It is the primal treasure, indeed.
