Seeing Clearly

We hired someone to clean the windows in the sunroom.

We have tried to clean the windows ourselves. It is really hard work, and we can never make it really clean. One day two weeks ago we were on our way to the supermarket. At the stop light there was a van next to us. On the side of the van it says "Andy's Window Cleaning" and the company's phone number. The van was very clean and the driver looked polite, so we wrote down the number.

We called, Andy came and Andy cleaned. And we were very pleased. It is so clean now, almost like transparent, that I worry now if birds would fly into the windows and hurt themselves.

Yesterday at the YMCA locker room I saw someone left a bottle of shampoo on the shelf. I was very surprised to read the label "Super Slim – Calorie Removal Shampoo". How ridiculous to hope for a shampoo to remove calories!

I took another look. And realized it is actually "Super Swim – Chlorine Removal Shampoo".

Oh well. Never mind.

Our neighbor Anita has decided not to take the chemo-therapy any more.

She was going through breast cancer therapy when we moved down here in May of 2004, both chemo and radiation therapy. Anita and her husband Don lived here for nearly 40 years, and they go to Michigan (where he was originally from) every summer from mid-May to mid-September. They had to postpone it in '04 until she was through with her treatment. And she recovered very well.

Anita is short and perky and sure of herself. Once she told us, "Don't ask me any questions I don't have answer for. I hate to be stupid." Don is 86 and she is about 76, and this is the second marriage for both of them. Two years ago Don went to have knee surgery because he wanted to keep playing golf and his knees were bothering him. It turned out his heart had problem that the doctor had to fix before the knee surgery.

Long story short, Don went through quiet a few surgeries on his heart, knees, hands.... When they went up to Michigan in the last 3 years, Anita drove the whole way by herself because Don could not drive.

But last April, her doctor found cancer in her hips. She went through a round of chemo and radiation. But eventually her doctor told her the cancer cells are growing faster than the treatment can control. So Anita decided to quit the treatment.

John downloaded and printed out a photo of a little boy. It is of a little boy sticking his head above a table. He printed it and cut it and taped it to the window facing the street. From the street, it looks like a little boy sticking his head in the window. John is so pleased with it. Even though I know it, every time I saw it I thought there was a little boy in our window. I love it and it drives me crazy at the same time.

That's about all there is to report from here.

Only 14 days until the new president takes the office. I hope he can see clearly for all of us.
